The new standard on financial reporting for not-for-profit entities, ASU 2016-14, will take effect at the end of 2018. The new standard requires changes to accounting for net assets, significant new disclosures about managing liquidity and the availability of resources, and much more.

To keep you ahead of these changing rules, we will conduct an in-depth seminar to provide implementation guidance to help you with the new requirements. This session will include examples, checklists, and best practices.

Taming the Terrible Twins of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for Charities

Converting transportation benefit expenses into taxable income and siloing unrelated business income are the two most challenging provisions of the 2017 Tax Act for not-for-profits. This 90-minute interactive workshop is designed to help you understand the changes to the laws (based on the current guidance) and give you actionable steps for getting your organization ready to file its 2018 tax return. The session will cover:

  • Qualified Transportation Benefits (QTB):
    • Determining if you offer QTB
    • If you offer QTB, determining whether it generates unrelated business taxable income
    • Establishing and documenting your organization’s tax position
    • Toolkit for self-preparing a simple 990-T for reporting single item returns
  • The new siloing rules for more than one unrelated trade or business
    • Analysis of your organization’s revenue
    • Review of current IRS guidance
    • Establishing and documenting your organization’s tax position.

For other TCJA provisions, we will provide a high-level overview and information on:

  • Excise tax on excess compensation
  • International provisions
  • Update on Charitable Contribution Regulations
  • Centralized Partnership Audit Regime
